Lifts
Overview
Lifts, also known as lift trucks or forklift trucks, are different from traditional forklifts. Forklifts are large piece of equipment that are typically driven from place to place, while lifts, or lift trucks, can be used manually and are pushed or battery operated to move them from place to place. Lifts can also be called "stackers," which is descriptive of the task they are most often used for. Small and light-weight lifts look like dollies, but with some sort of device used to lift the carried item without need for the operator to bend to retrieve it. Heavy-duty lifts come with platforms that are larger and flat like dollies, or two large prongs like that of a fork lift, which is ideal for lifting and transporting pallets of goods. Stable lifts are also referred as pallet positioners that look like small tables or bases that adjust up down. These are used to hold a pallet of goods or other items that needs to be raised or lowered for people to utilize them in some way, like to move the items to a shelf. These are designed to make the task easier and more ergonomic once the goods have been transported to where they need to be. Most industrial supply companies will carry a variety of lifts, from manual to self-propelled.
How it Works
Manual lifts usually work with a winch, in which the operator turns a crank to provide power for lifting, or with a foot pedal that is pumped to lift the forks. Power and battery lifts and things like table lifts typically use a hydraulic system.
Benefits
Lifts make much easier work of stacking items on shelves and moving items in bulk from place to place. Often times, they are used when the items are too large or heavy for a person to easily lift, but they have a great benefit even for lighter items, allowing them to be moved and lifted several at a time. Even with light items, repeated bending and standing while lifting can cause injury, so lifts help prevent these types of problems and offer a more ergonomic way to move products or materials.
Costs
The cost of lifts depends on several factors including size and method of operation. Manual lift trucks that use a winch for operation are available for around $450 on the low-end with just over 200 pounds capacity, with added features like more weight capacity, adjustable straddle legs, and counterbalancing, which adds up to a $500 to the price. Battery-powered lifts that do not require turning a crank average about $2,500 to $3,000 dollars starting out. Power lifts and those are self-propelled starting in the range of about $5,000.
Timing
Rapid economy growth has considerably improved the overall development. One such expansion is the construction of IT parks, shopping malls, theaters, and more. Lifts play an integral part in these high-quality constructions.
