Industrial Pumps

Overview

A pump is a machine that is used to move liquids, gases, and slurries. Pumps are classified into two main types based on the movement of liquid: positive displacement pumps and rotodynamic pumps. Most industries use a variety of pumps during the course of everyday operations, with water and vacuum pumps being the most commonly used. Certain industries require very specialized equipment, for instance, the petroleum industry needs pumps built to very exacting specifications for safety. Most industries require a certain number of fairly standard pumps, such as those that move liquid in prescribed amounts and those that displace air. Industrial Pumps & Compressors, Pitbull Pumps, and Goulds Pumps are just a few of the companies that specialize in industrial pumps. You will find a wide variety of pumps available in the market including axial pumps, centrifugal pumps, peristaltic pumps, piston pumps, bicycle pumps, and more.

How it Works

The mode of operation differs from one pump to another. In axial pumps, the flow in suction and the flow out discharge are in same direction. Axial pumps are generally used to make a liquid go quicker without raising its pressure. Whereas, in centrifugal pumps the direction of the discharge is at a right angle to the direction of the suction.

Benefits

The benefit of choosing the right pump is gaining a more efficient operation. At the same time, there are serious consequences if you choose the wrong ones. For liquid pumps, it is crucial to know the chemical makeup of the substance to be pumped. For a water pump, this is a non-issue, but if you are pumping any other types of liquid, you have to consider the materials the pump is made from. You need to determine if that fluid at that temperature can corrode the interior of the pump or the wetted materials of the pump. The best place to find out about the possibility of corrosion is to inquire with the industrial distributor that carries the pump with all of the information about the substance that you will be pumping. Liquids with a different gravity or viscosity might not flow as well through the pump and cause it to fail prematurely. Different types of vacuum pumps offer different benefits, as well. Positive displacement pumps allow gases to fill a chamber by expanding it, and then seal it so that it can be expelled. These are good for situations where you need a low vacuum. A pump that uses a piston is a type of positive displacement pump. Molecular pumps or momentum transfer pumps use rotating blades to pull gas through the pump. These offer a high vacuum and are often used together with a positive displacement pump. Entrapment pumps offer the highest level of vacuum suction.

Costs

The cost of pumps depends on pumping and the size respectively. Water and vacuum pumps typically start out at several hundred dollars with the price increasing depending on size and capacity. With vacuum pumps, positive displacement pumps typically cost less than other kinds, with entrapment pumps that offer the most vacuum power running at the high end of pump prices.

Timing

Due to the expansion of industrialization, the need has been increased quite a lot. Pumps are widely used in oil and gas industries, firefighters, agricultural purposes, and more.
