Industrial Fasteners
Overview
Fasteners are hardware devices that are used to join two or more objects. Industrial fasteners are used in industrial applications to manufacture goods that meet industrial standards. There are many types of fasteners that are designed to hold the devices that they join for a longer period. They can be also unfastened with the help of appropriate instruments.
There are around 350 fastener manufacturing facilities in the United States, employing around 40,000 people. North American fastener production is closely tied to heavy industry, the auto industry, aircraft manufacture, and many other large industries. Companies include AVK, P-K, Red Head Anchoring System, and ITW Buildex.
How it Works
Screws and bolts are specifically designed to be used with inclined plane. The sloping plane is the string and rivets can be installed in one of several ways. A rivet gun is used to fix a small rivet and thereby provide a strong hold.
Screws and bolts are the most common industrial fasteners, but there is no universal accepted feature distinguishing a screw and a bolt. There are many definitions for these defined by various organization and government regulatory agencies, but none of them has been in usage for a long time. This is because there is no basic difference between the two.
Practically defining, a screw has a tapered and threaded shaft and is used to fasten things into un-threaded surfaces. Mostly screws are tightened using a clockwise rotary motion and it is referred as right-hand thread. Left-hand thread screws are rare and it is anticlockwise rotation.
Bolts are used in conjunction with nuts to hold two surfaces between them or sometimes in threaded holes. Another common type of mechanical fastener rivet is a smooth, cylindrical shaft with a head on one end. It can be fitted in a predrilled hole. The tail of the rivet is flattened to about 1.5 times the original diameter of the shaft that provides a firm hold of the rivet in place.
Benefits
People who are mostly benefited by using the rivets are the manufacturers and some of the normal users. These are prefabricated products and can be easily assembled upon delivery. Most of the rivets are of permanent type, while some of the industrial fasteners can be easily fastened and unfastened. Industrial fasteners offer companies a standardized, economical way of attaching one thing to another at an affordable price.
Costs
Fasteners are generally very cheap. This is the main reason why they are manufactured and used in many of the industries widely. They roughly cost around $50.
Timing
The manufacturers or the distributors mostly need no prior information to deliver fasteners. Once you are established with a supplier, many can deliver an order you place at 9 AM by the next business day. Fasteners tend to be essential to business and suppliers react accordingly.
