Overview

Generators are innovative products that offer inexpensive backup power. A generator is a machine that produces electrical energy from a mechanical energy source. This process is technically referred as electromagnetic induction or electricity generation. Most generators depend on a motor to supply the mechanical energy, which the generator converts into electricity. Generators are used as standby power for all sorts of applications like enterprises, homes, industries, and small businesses. They are used as primary sources of electrical energy in most remote locations. Generators can be used as power is needed, temporarily, or as a permanent backup in case of blackouts or brownouts. Some of the companies that manufacture generators include Kubota, United Guardian, Terex, Coleman, Pramac, Briggs and Stratton, and Triton.

How it Works

There are many similarities between generators and general motors. A generator does not create electric energy, but generates energy like a water pump. They force the electric charge to move through a circuit. The source of a generator can be a steam turbine engine or an internal combustion engine. There are generators that are hand cranked.

Benefits

A generator has plenty of benefits. As they are portable, they can be used in remote locations where there is no electric supply. You can use a portable generator with extension cords to generate powers in places where you cannot draw electric lines. The best benefit of generators is that you can generate your own power as long as you have fuel, without the use of a power grid. Large generators are used in offices, so that normal work routine can go on even if there is no electric power. Small generators can be used in small offices, movie sets, or construction sites.

Costs

The cost of generators varies according to size, brand, and efficiency. The amount of fuel usage also determines the cost of the generator. Small portable generators are less costly than large permanent ones. The cost of a small portable generator may be anything between a few hundred dollars to several thousand while a large permanent generator may surely cost you more. Other expenses include the cost of the fuel, setting up the generator, and regular maintenance.

Timing

The right time to invest in a generator depends on your requirement. If your business needs uninterrupted power supply for normal functioning, then it is best to purchase a generator. You can buy a generator as soon as you set up your business, especially if it deals with computers or power tools. If your business depends on moving to different places, then you can buy a small portable generator that works efficiently.
